Former US President Donald Trump has reacted to his successor, Joe Biden, following his harsh criticism during a speech commemorating the anniversary of the Capitol attack on Jan. 6.
Biden lashed on Trump on Thursday, the anniversary of the Jan. 6 incident in which Trump supporters stormed the capital building in an attempt to alter the results of the 2020 election. Biden referred to Trump as a 'failed president,' claiming that his 'bruised ego is more important to him than our democracy or our Constitution, and he can't accept defeat".
Trump, who is considering a presidential run in 2024, responded to Biden's speech by accusing him of mentioning his name in his remarks, despite the fact that Biden referred to him simply as "the previous president."
"Today, (Biden) used my name to attempt to further polarize America. All of this political spectacle is a distraction." Trump supplemented
"The Democrats want to own January 6th in order to incite fear and further divide America," Trump said in an email message. "I say give it to them because America sees right through their deceptions and polarizations."
Trump made no mention of the incident in his statement, instead launching repeated attacks on Biden's economic, immigration, and even COVID-19 policies.
"All of this political theater is a distraction from the fact that Biden has failed completely and utterly," Trump stated.
Trump also reiterated his claim that the election was rigged against him.
"They want all election-related discussion to be halted. In fact, the Big Lie was the Election," he stated.
In a second statement, Trump claimed that Democrats are "the ones who attempted to rig the election in order to prevent the peaceful handover."
"Never forget the 2020 Presidential Election's crime," he wrote. "Never surrender!"
