On Friday, Aloy Ejimakor, Nnamdi Kanu's special attorney, replied to President Muhammadu Buhari's appeal for the secessionist's release.
Ejimakor told DAILY POST he hoped Buhari would be held accountable for allowing the judiciary to decide Kanu's case.
Recall that Buhari ruled out a political solution to Kanu's case.
Buhari stated he won't intervene with the judiciary's handling of Kanu's case.
The president had been urged by certain Igbo elders, led by former Aviation Minister Mbazulike Amaechi, to consider releasing the IPOB leader.
But Ejimakor said Buhari's latest remark has lowered Kanu's chances of release.
“Buhari's views on freeing Nnamdi Kanu are complex,” says Ejimakor. While he seemed to downplay the chances of an executive decision to free Kanu, he also indicated that the judiciary will decide.
“Buhari is thus stating that he will obey any judicial judgment on Kanu, including a release order. This wasn't his first time saying that. He told it to Chief Mbazulike Amaechi two months ago.
“I hope that Buhari is held to his vow to respect any judicial ruling on the Kanu case, whether it be bail, mistrial, or unconditional release.”
