President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorized the deployment of 2 700 SANDF members to help the police in preserving law and order.
Following the turmoil in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal in July last year, Ramaphosa sent 25 000 soldiers, causing billions in property damage.
This was decreased to 10,000 soldiers last year.
Ramaphosa's latest deployment will cost R233 million from December 18 to March 18, 2022.
Deputy Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and National Council of Provinces Chairperson Amos Masondo were informed of the deployment.
The deployment, in conjunction with the police, was intended to prevent and combat crime and maintain law and order.
Section 201[2][a] of the 1996 Constitution and Section 18[1] of the Defence Act 2002 govern employment.
The Presidency and police will comment once received.
