After suffering a thigh injury while on international duty with France, Pogba has not played for United since November 2. Rangnick told Pogba in December that he should cut short his rehabilitation in Dubai and return to Carrington for the rest of his recovery. The Frenchman has returned to Manchester, although his return to action is not expected any time soon.
Rangnick said at a news conference on Friday that he was informed it would take another four or five weeks a week ago.
"I saw him before the training session this morning, but I'm not sure how long it will take.
"He hasn't yet joined the team in training. It will last another three to four weeks, according to the medical department, and just because he is fit for training does not imply he is also a match fit.
"It'll probably be a couple of weeks before he's ready to compete for the first squad," says the coach.
Pogba is racing against the clock to get back in shape for United's Champions League round-of-16 first-leg match against Atletico Madrid on Feb. 23.
The midfielder's contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, and if no new terms are reached, he will be free to depart in June.
United has made an offer, according to ESPN, but several of Europe's best teams, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain, are also interested.
