Newcastle United confirmed on Friday that they had signed Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier.
Full-back David Brooks returns to the Premier League after 2.5 years in Spain.
The defender joins Newcastle on a two-and-a-half year deal after the club was bought out by a Saudi Arabian consortium in October.
On the official club website, Trippier said: "I'm happy to join this amazing club." "I loved my time in Madrid, but from working with Eddie Howe previously, I knew this was where I wanted to be.
"I know we have a lot to do, but I also know the Premier League's demands and what a fantastic club this is with talented players."
"I'm anxious to get started and play at St. James' Park as a Newcastle player."
Trippier, 31, made 86 appearances for Atletico Madrid previous season, helping them win LaLiga.
In December, ESPN reported that Atletico expected a January approach from Newcastle for Trippier.
"I am delighted to welcome Kieran to Newcastle United," remarked Howe. "I've long respected his abilities and career, so we jumped at the chance to get him."
"We were able to make this transaction fast since we planned for the January transfer window long before the month began. It was a great team effort and I look forward to working with Kieran again on the training pitch."
Trippier, who had a contract with the Wanda Metropolitano until 2023, was an important player for the club and coach Diego Simeone.
The defender had already indicated an interest in joining Manchester United last summer.
"He's unique. "He's always given us excellent stuff," Simeone stated last week. "We want him to stay, but you can't."
Trippier started Sunday's 2-0 LaLiga win over Rayo Vallecano but missed training on Tuesday as the deal closed.
According to ESPN, Atletico Madrid had already started looking for a right-back who could also play in central defence to replace Trippier.
The club is set to spend substantially in January to escape relegation.
