Announcing that President Muhammadu Buhari will consider the interest of Nigerians in the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, Attorney-General Abubakar Malami (SAN) said on Tuesday.“In general, I can tell you that the President's choice is founded essentially and always on public interest consideration,” Malami stated on NTA's Good Morning Nigeria Show.
“In the art of governing, and knowing the President, Muhammadu Buhari, I consider the 200 million as opposed to the few.
[On] the subject of Kanu, the President's decision would be governed by the general interest rather than a narrow sectional interest.
Some Igbo leaders recently pushed Buhari to liberate Kanu.
The elders made the appeal at a meeting with Buhari at the State House in Abuja.
The Amaechi-led elders requested President Buhari to unconditionally release IPOB leader.
Kanu was re-arrested in Kenya in June 2021 and extradited to Nigeria to face an Abuja Federal High Court.
Following his homecoming, the separatist was detained by the DSS.
The IPOB leader is facing terrorism accusations in a court presided by Justice Binta Nyako.
