Christian Eriksen declared on Tuesday he wanted to play in this year's World Cup in Qatar, and reports in England suggest he could return to the Premier League. Eriksen, 29, hasn't played since a heart arrest against Finland in last year's European Championship in Copenhagen.
While the former Inter, Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax midfielder stated his intention to return to football for the World Cup, his interview with a Danish channel left many issues unanswered.
Inter recently terminated his contract after he had a heart-starter device placed after a catastrophic fall. His career in Italy was virtually ended due to the ban on such gadgets.
"My ambition has always been to play in the World Cup in Qatar. It's doubtful I'll be chosen, but I'd love to return. So until then I'll just play and prove I'm back on par "stated he
Eriksen said the event at Copenhagen's Parken Stadium was unlikely to be repeated.
"My aim is to rejoin the national team and play at Parken again. Again, the management must examine my level "stated he
He made a request for help in the interview, but his chances of returning are questionable.
Ajax, where the mercurial Eriksen broke through before joining Premier League side Tottenham, has a similar device affixed to Daley Blind, and a number of clubs are sure to be interested in Eriksen's abilities.
Newcastle United, who recently acquired a Saudi consortium, desperately need a creative spark like him.
Eriksen understands he will have to prove his fitness to any potential employment.
"That's why I feel it's time to go out and interview," he told DR.
Eriksen sat back and relaxed as he talked about the future, assuring clubs that his heart can be trusted.
So everything is stable, so it feels like a green light to be able to play football again," Eriksen remarked.
His last public act was waving to fans as he was carried off the Parken Stadium surface.
He remained out of the public eye during his recovery until he felt ready to return. For the first time in his glittering career, he is without a club.
"In football, you can never really decide where you're heading," Eriksen said.
