Cameroon came from behind to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Yaounde on Sunday, with captain Vincent Aboubakar converting two penalty penalties.

Burkina Faso, who were missing coach Kamou Malo and six players who tested positive for Covid-19, conceded two sloppy penalties after Gustavo Sangare stunned the home crowd of roughly 45,000 at the newly built Olembe Stadium with the game's first goal.

In the 24th minute, Sangare scored with his left foot at the back post to give the Burkinabe a surprising lead in the Group A match, but their captain Bertrand Traore and defender Issoufou Dayo both gave away penalties in short succession.

Aboubakar, who was a member of Cameroon's victorious team at the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon, tucked both kicks away with ease.
