In honor of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who died on Sunday morning, the city of Cape Town will light up Table Mountain and the city hall in purple.

On Sunday, Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis announced that one of the ways the city will honor Tutu's contribution was to light up the renowned mountain and city hall every night from 8 p.m. until midnight.

"It serves as a reminder of his excellent life and contributions, and it aids us in remembering and celebrating them."

In honor of our beloved Arch, the @CityofCT will light up our iconic Table Mountain and City Hall in purple every night from 20:00 to midnight. This will remain visible until Archbishop Desmond Tutu's ceremonial funeral. https://t.co/l2658WsLtY

This, according to Hill-Lewis, will continue until Tutu's official funeral.

He said condolence books would be available at city facilities in and around Cape Town, as well as at St George's Cathedral, and he invited residents and visitors to write notes.
