Lady Gaga and the Dalai Lama shared a private conversation Sunday

Lady Gaga and the Dalai Lama shared a private conversation Sunday Before both appearing at the U.S. Conference of Mayors

The first question concerned how the Lama helps “young people address issues of poor self-esteem, managing eating disorders, addiction, self-harm, and suicide?” He pointed to the possibility of a very materialistic world potentially diverting from people being educated about inner value and having a “lack of compassionate feeling taught.”

“So what you’re saying is, caring for others and having compassion, it gives you a sense of purpose, so it helps you to feel less alone and alienated so you know we all belong together,” Gaga followed in a statement the Lama affirmed.

The two touched on myriad topics, from self-esteem to the importance of meditation. The final topic from Gaga took a wider prospective of the world. “ ‘How can I still feel at peace with so much horror in this wonderful world? I need peace of mind. I’m losing it.’”

His Holiness provided an answer learned from his own life: “So when some problem you see happens, if you look closely, then it appears unbearable. The same problem, looked from distance — a more wider prospective — yes there’s a problem, I have to face it. But there are other positive things, so I should not lose hope.”
