His character Wolverine is the epitome of masculinity and physical strength.

The actor and his 57-year-old wife made the confession in an interview with The Sun.

When asked what it was like to live with Hugh during filming of the superhero flick, she said, 'Oh my god, it's dreadful! Always with the claws. I'm like "Mix the salad. Put them to use, come on!"'

Hugh then quipped, 'The sheets we go through...'

The star was also asked about his wife's influence on his career and said he has her to thank for how far he has come.

'I would be a quarter of the man I am without her.'

The couple met on the set of the Australian television show Correlli, in which Deborah starred as a prison psychologist.

The Australia natives married shortly after on April 11, 1996 in Melbourne.

Deborra-Lee suffered two miscarriages while undergoing IVF early in their marriage. The pair went on to adopt two children, Oscar, 12, and Ava.

Hugh's latest film, due out on Friday, follows X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was released in 2009 and despite dividing critics still made an impressive $374 million at the worldwide box office.

The next installment of the franchise will be X Men: Days of Future Past, which will be released next year.

Hugh has described Wolverine as a 'career defining role' saying: 'It may be the strongest of all the roles I've played.'
