Solange steps into the spotlight in some very kinky cut-out boots

Solange Knowles made another tentative step out of her sister’s shadow over the weekend – in a pair of very distinctive cut-out boots on stage in New York.
The 26-year-old singer has been turning heads with a brand new sound since signing for Big Apple based Terrible Records and kick-starting a musical partnership with close pal Dev Hynes.
But like big sister Beyonce, Solange’s unique sense of style is often the major talking point whenever she takes to the stage.

Solange showcased her eclectic style at the 2013 Northside Festival in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park on Sunday.

With her afro replaced by waist-length braids and a colourful red and green print baseball cap loosely placed on her head, Solange treated fans to tracks from last year’s True EP – but while the live set went down well, her outlandish footwear seemed to steal her musical thunder.
Indeed, the grey patent leather boots had more than a hint of S&M about them courtesy of the unusual bandage style wrap detail curling around her lower legs.
Despite their precarious heels, Solange had no problem gyrating across the stage in her new footwear – but later confessed on Twitter that she was relieved to pull them off after the show. 
'Northside! Brooklyn! New York! U beautiful people made me feel really good in side. I hope you enjoyed. I’m happy I took those heels off,' she tweeted on Monday. 
Heels aside, the singer ensured her overall ensemble caught the eye by matching frayed denim shorts with a green and black striped t-shirt.
Casual yet slightly overstated, the look was complimented by heavy, blood red lipstick and limited accessories comprised of matching gold bracelets on each wrist.
The mother of one will be releasing third album Sole Responsibility later this year after spending the better part of 12-months in the recording studio with talented producer Hynes.
While the new music has earned her a new following, it might be some time before she outshines Beyonce, who is currently preparing for a return to music with her imminent fifth studio album. 
The yet to be titled release will feature contributions from the likes of Timbaland, The-Dream, Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake.

So that's how she keeps in shape: The singer and DJ fit in a few squats as she performed at the event
