The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) have expressed displeasure at the Supreme Court of Nigeria's protracted delay in hearing the Federal Government's appeal against the Court of Appeal's ruling that exonerated their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The delay, according to IPoB, is concerning given all the accelerated hearing processes that have been filed in the case.

The Biafra agitation group questioned why a case of fundamental rights abuse had been pending before the Supreme Court for such a long time and expressed suspicion that recent political developments and ethnic profiling of Ndigbo in Nigeria are also at play in the case of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The IPoB questioned why the case of Kanu is different after seeing the Supreme Court expedite hearings in political cases and accused the Justices of the Supreme Court of not being impartial in a statement released by their spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful.

"We, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the worldwide movement and family ably led by the great prophet and indomitable liberator, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu, question the Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria's silence and refusal to hear the appeal case of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, despite all the accelerated hearing processes filed on the case.

"It is clear that Biafrans, especially Ndigbo, face threat to their life in Nigeria. The Supreme Court of Nigeria has been seen expediting hearings in political issues that have been filed before it, but it has remained silent over the violation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's human rights while he has been unlawfully incarcerated for almost two years in the DSS dungeon.

"The Supreme Court of Nigeria has demonstrated that it is not impartial in this matter by remaining silent and refusing to schedule a hearing date for the Federal Government's petitions against the discharge and acquittal ruling from the Abuja Appeal Court.

"Mazi Nnamdi KANU was kidnapped and tortured in Kenya before being delivered to Nigeria by Nigerian State Secret Agents. He was a prisoner of conscience. On October 13, 2022, the Abuja Appeal Court cleared Mazi Nnamdi Kanu of all charges and mandated that the Nigerian government give him a fair settlement.

The Federal Government went to the Supreme Court to thwart the Appeal Court Orders and appealed the matter, rather than releasing MNK as directed by the Appeal Court. The Supreme Court, which should be the last bastion of the ordinary man, has been silent for more than 150 days after this appeal was filed, allowing the Nigerian government to keep torturing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and imprisoning him illegally in a solitary cell at the DSS.
