Zafar Bhatti, 58, a Pakistani Protestant Pastor, was executed for blasphemy against Islam. A district court in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, sentenced Zafar. According to Anglican Ink, the Pastor was accused of sending a profane SMS text message.
Before his incarceration in 2012, the Pastor formed the charitable organization “Jesus World Mission” to help the needy. His arrest happened following an anonymous complaint.
Zafar was sentenced to life imprisonment on May 3, 2017 despite the fact that the service provider revealed that the SIM card number used to send texts belonged to a Muslim woman named Ghazala Khan.
The number's owner was tried in April 2013 and released on bail.
Zafar is currently the longest-serving blasphemy prisoner and the first to be executed by a court on January 3.
