Internazionale forward Alexis Sanchez scored in the final minute of extra time to give Inter a 2-1 win against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup at San Siro on Wednesday.
The home fans erupted in glee when the Chilean replacement capitalized on a defensive blunder to score in the 120th minute and win the 'Derby of Italy' between two traditional foes.
"A champion becomes better with experience and performs things no one else can do," Sanchez told Mediaset after the game.
"That was today. In form, respecting the coach, but wanting to win... I felt confined."
In a tense first half, Weston McKennie gave Turin the lead before Lautaro Martinez levelled from the spot.
Inter dominated possession and shot attempts, but penalties seemed certain until Sanchez scored to give Inter their sixth Super Cup win and first since 2010.
The trophy, given yearly to the winner of a one-off match between Serie A and Italian Cup champions, gave both coaches an opportunity to shine.
For Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, it was his first trophy, while for Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri, it was his first trophy in a disastrous second tenure.
Inter, coming off an eight-game winning streak, failed to capitalize on decent chances from Stefan de Vrij and Martinez.
In the 25th minute, McKennie scored from six yards for Juventus.
After ten minutes, Mattia De Sciglio tripped Edin Dzeko in the area, allowing Martinez to score a penalty.
Mattia Perin palmed Denzel Dumfries' header onto the post after the break, but it was soon the first extra-time Italian Super Cup since 2016.
A penalty shootout seemed certain as both tired sides failed to create chances.
But a lapse in concentration by Alex Sandro allowed Matteo Darmian to pounce on a sloppy ball and set up Sanchez.
