Geordin Hill-Lewis, the mayor of Cape Town, has offered the council chamber, Grand Parade, and city hall for national assembly sittings and the upcoming state of the nation address.
Hill-Lewis called the fire at Parliament on Sunday a "national tragedy."
"Because Cape Town is also the historic seat of parliament, we share the sense of tragedy that so many people are experiencing at this time." While the full extent of the damage is being assessed, the city of Cape Town stands ready to assist in any way it can."
He stated that he had contacted Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and requested that their facilities be made available.
The State of the Union address is scheduled for February 10.
