After West Ham were defeated 3-2 by Southampton, David Moyes stated that his team had a horrible day at work. After drawing level twice in the Premier League match at the London Stadium, the Hammers were defeated by a late header from Jan Bednarek.

Mohamed Elyounoussi scored from the edge of the penalty box to give Southampton the lead after only eight minutes.

Substitute After Craig Dawson took down Armando Broja, Michail Antonio equalized before James Ward-Prowse put Saints back in ahead with a penalty.

Bednarek nodded in a Ward-Prowse free-kick to leave the Hammers empty-handed.

"I didn't think it was similar to us." I'm hoping to turn it into a day off for us. "It wasn't the West Ham I'd known in the previous two years," Moyes stated.

"You are allowed to take days off. We don't differ in any way. Today was a bad day. I thought we'd accomplished enough to re-enter the game and turn a terrible day into a good one.

"We were terrible in the first half." We lacked the necessary energy. We were unable to gain any traction. To be honest, at halftime, I could have moved four or five players.

"At that point, I thought there would only be one winner." I assumed we'd win the game even with a score of 1-1. "At the very least, don't lose it."

The Hammers started the season in fifth place, but are now on the verge of falling further behind the top four.

"We have to stay in a solid, strong position, and if we can, stay on the tails of the teams above us, and keep pushing forward," Moyes stated.

"The first half was uninteresting. It lacked the energy that we would ordinarily have. The players, at the very least, improved in the second half.

Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl received a much-needed Christmas boost when his team won for the first time in seven games.

"We had the proper reaction to every threat they had on the pitch," he remarked. It was a crucial win and three points, and it's amazing that we were able to win here.

"Today we did things a little differently. We can hold our own against this team, and scoring three goals tonight is a huge step forward for the team.

"We scored goals at crucial times." It was a tactically bold performance."
