A man on the run from authorities after reportedly defrauding a friend of his R8.2 million lottery winnings. However, the long arm of the law has deprived him of his ill-gotten wealth, with the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) seizing what remains in his bank accounts – around R3 million — to be restored to the victim and an arrest warrant issued for him.
Zimbabwean Emmanuel Mundiya won the multimillion-rand jackpot in November 2019 with a winning lottery ticket.Mundiya, however, did not have a South African bank account and sought assistance from his friend Qongani Moyo.
According to court documents filed in the asset forfeiture suit just before Christmas by Johannesburg high court acting judge Jaco Pretorius, the two men reached an agreement.
Mundiya gave Ithuba permission to deposit the funds in Moyo's Standard Bank account. Mundiya will be issued a second card to enable him to access the funds.
However, Mundiya's situation deteriorated.
