South Africa records over 17,000 cases, 465 deaths

The Department of Health has confirmed to eNCA on Wednesday that South Africa has recorded more than 17,700 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours.This is the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Department of Health stated 17,710 new cases of the coronavirus have been reported, with a positivity rate of 33 percent.

"The positivity rate, being an indicator of the rapidity of the spread, remains of major concern," Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said in a statement.

465 people have died of COVID-19 since the last report.
