
President Cyril Ramaphosa said the reducing rate of COVID-19 infections is an encouraging sign but South Africans must maintain vigilance on Saturday evening.
The president highlighted some of the recent encouraging signs in the country's battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
Ramaphosa announced that the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is now at 583 653, while the number of active cases is around 105 000.
The president said fewer people are showing symptoms of the virus and fewer people have required hospitalisation for complications.
He stated 11,667 people are confirmed to have died from COVID-19 in South Africa.
