Spokesperson Clayson Monyela says government is doing all it can to ensure the return of all citizens stranded abroad.
The global coronavirus pandemic has led to the repatriation of thousands of South Africans from across the world.
“Over 3,000 have been repatriated so far....we expecting another group tomorrow and the last group from US on Saturday. We have had challenges, particularly in the Asian and Middle Eastern countries,” said Monyela.
Monyela said government is exploring various methods to assist those that can't afford to pay for their return.
“We continue to negotiate with airlines including SAA to see the best rates that we can negotiate for our citizens to come home. We also talking to other stakeholders who are willing to contribute to this process...”
He added that Dirco has a 24-hour command centre dedicated to South Africans who would like to come home.
