Television presenter Kamohelo Bombe is seething with anger over what she called an "insulting and disrespectful" employee at a local supermarket

Bombe, a presenter on Shift, an SABC 1's talk show, spoke of how she encountered a cleaner at a Cambridge store in Soweto at the weekend who told Bombe that she was at the store because she was broke.

"She was mopping the floor and I simply asked her if I could please pass. She rudely asked me if I couldn't see that she was busy," said Bombe.

Instead, Bombe said, the woman told her that she behaved like she was entitled to special treatment because she appeared on television.

"She said TV people are pretentious as we are broke and shop at cheap stores. She asked me what I was doing at Cambridge as it's a store for poor people, and that I would be better off shopping at Woolworths. I was shocked," she said.

Bombe said she immediately asked for the manager, but the cleaning lady persisted.

"She admitted right in front of the manager that she had insulted me, and was completely unapologetic about it. I felt like I was dreaming. I felt violated and insulted."

Bombe said she was at the store to buy sanitary towels for her charity.

"I wanted to buy pads in bulk as I have a pads campaign that I am working on. I knew that I would get them at Cambridge, as I couldn't find the pads at another store. For this lady to insult me like that was completely uncalled for. Yes, we might be on TV, but we are still human. I thought I could shop wherever I wanted, but apparently not," she retorted.

Sowetan contacted the Cambridge regional manager, Joe Mailula, who said that the cleaner worked for an outsourced company, and that he was planning a meeting with the managers of that company.

"The matter will be investigated thoroughly and disciplinary action will be taken accordingly. A celebrity is as important as any other customer to us," he said.
