As a result of the negligence of the defendants, one or more unknown individuals were allowed access to the event with weapons, including firearms," the suit reads. "As a foreseeable result, gunshots were fired by those admitted into the event and (Knight) was shot and seriously injured."
Knight suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen, chest and left forearm in the shooting. The Death Row Records co-founder is seeking an unspecified amount of money for past and future medical expenses. The lawsuit, which accuses Brown of having gang ties, asserts that 1 Oak owners should have administered special security precautions since Brown has a "well-documented track record of hosting events and/or parties in which violence frequently erupted.
"Mr. Knight was still extremely frail from his gunshot injuries less than five months earlier," the attorney wrote in a statement. "When the facts are finally revealed in this case, we're certain it will be apparent that our client was simply trying to flee for his life."
Knight, a two-time convicted felon, is currently in jail awaiting trial on a murder charge stemming from the fatal 2015 car crash in Compton that left one man dead and another seriously injured. According to AP, Knight cited complications from his shooting injuries in court appearances connected to the murder charge.
Knight's attorneys, J. Tooson and Jeremy Lessem, reportedly claimed the former rap mogul's fear following the club shooting caused him to flee when he was attacked in his car and ran down the two men. Tooson cited a connection between Knight's shooting injuries and the Compton crash.
