The ‘blesser’ phenomenon — sugar daddies showering women with an awful lot of expensive gifts — has taken South Africa by storm. While some may be hugely benefiting from the trend‚ it seems it has rubbed others off the wrong way.
In reference to a post that was found on the Blesserfinder social
media page — which is designed to match (mostly young) women with rich
benefactors — TV personality Ntombi Mzolo took to Instagram today to
weigh in on how the trend is affecting women in the country.
“This is very disturbing for me. I’m not one to judge but I honestly think there are other solutions‚” she said.

“We
all have our share of challenges and no one is perfect but the one
thing that makes others come seem better or stronger than others are the
decisions they make. Let’s not allow temporal challenges or situations
destroy our lives.”
She explained that women need to stand together in order to put an end to this highly-popular trend.
In addition‚ she warned that people shouldn’t wait until their daughters and sisters are victims‚ as it might be too late.
“I
think there are many opportunities for young women to be empowered out
there but we as women are very jealous and hardly share the information.
“For
how long will we watch young‚ beautiful and very intelligent women
compromise themselves in the name of poverty? Most women have the power
to empower other women but choose not to.”
Meanwhile‚
controversial businessman Kenny Kunene — widely known as the Sushi King —
called for the Blesserfinder page to be closed on current affairs show
Checkpoint on Tuesday evening.
“Once it becomes a transaction there is no blesser and blessee‚ it’s prostitution‚” Kenny said.
