If everything goes according to plan, DJ Sbu will be hosting a drive-time show on a KZN commercial radio station as early as July.
Born Sibusiso Leope, DJ Sbu is in talks with Durban-based Vuma FM, hoping to make a comeback to radio broadcasting.
According to well placed sources, Leope wants to host a prestigious drive-time show and if the two parties agree on terms, he will broadcast live from Rosebank studios in Johannesburg.
Leope will be joining a star-studded team, including Linda Sibiya, Jacinta Ngobese and Lucky Sefatsa.
Head of radio at Times Media, Tony Mallam, has confirmed that the station was negotiating with Leope.
"Yes, we have received a request from him and we are still in talks. It's still early stages to predict the outcome. We are meeting him again this week."
Mallam further confirmed that if the talks went smoothly, they will consider Leope for a drive-time show. He added that normally Vuma FM introduced changes in July, and that might be the time Leope would be on air.
Leope was reluctant to talk about his new venture but confirmed that he was in talks with Vuma FM.
"We've just started talking and we are at an early stage to comment about that."
Leope was fired in March last year by Metro FM for promoting his energy drink during the Metro FM Music Awards at the Durban ICC. Last October Leope left the popular SABC1 game show Friends Like These. He currently hosts Kicking Doors with Sbu Leope, an entrepreneurship show on CNBC Africa. He also hosts the business networking event Sunday Circle for young business people. Vuma FM, part of Times Media Group, broadcasts in English and Zulu.
