Demi Lovato shared this image from her night at the Met Gala with Jeremy Scott and Nicki Minaj

It was her first time at the Met Gala but it may be Demi Lovato's last.

The 23-year-old posted to Instagram on Wednesday to divulge just how awkward she felt at the elite costume party as one of designer Jeremy Scott's dates (the other date was Nicki Minaj).

The post came after Minaj shared an image from the night to her Instagram featuring Demi and their escort for the evening but curiously only tagged the Moschino designer, apparently snubbing Lovato
The ostensible shade did not go unnoticed  by the Stone Cold singer, who promptly posted to Snapchat a frowny faced altered photo with the caption: 'When you aren't mentioned in a post but didn't do sh** to the person...'

Demi then went on to share a snap to Instagram from the red carpet at the Met where Minaj appears to be throwing shade at her with a sidelong glance.

The singer captioned her post: 'This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met #cool #sof**kingawkward #notforme #sweatpants #forensicfiles #whatsgood'.

Adding: 'p.s. some of y'all need to learn how to take a joke.. I'm obviously laughing at the fact that 1. I look incredibly awkward and 2. That the shade being thrown in this picture actually gives me life'.

No further word yet from Minaj on the matter.

Meanwhile, Demi, who earlier this year was presented with GLAAD's Vanguard Award earlier this year, recently made waves when she cancelled the the North Carolina leg of her Future Now tour.

The date was part of her her concert series with her old friend Nick Jonas, however they opted to pull out over the state's passing of a law which eliminates anti-discrimination protections for transgender people.

In a joint statement on social media the singers stated: 'North Carolina's discriminatory HB2 law is extremely disappointing, and it takes away some of the LGBT community's most basic rights and protections.'

The state's Republican governor, Pat McCrory, signed the law in March last month. The most controversial provision requires individuals to use restrooms corresponding to the gender listed on their birth certificates, not to the gender they identify with.

This forces transgender women to use men's restrooms and transgender men to use women's restrooms.
