The Spanish shot-stopper has been one of the Premier League's standout performers this season and has been a consistent presence between the posts for Louis van Gaal's men.

De Gea has kept 14 clean sheets in 32 Premier League games so far this season to help United challenge for a place in the top four.

The Spain international also won the club's main award for the last two years.

And the goalkeeper used his personal Instagram account to thank his team-mates and fans after claiming the away for a third straight season.

De Gea posted the picture above on the app and wrote: "Is a big honour, it's amazing be named #MUFCPOTY three times in a row! Thanks a lot to everyone again!"

De Gea will be expecting to be involved when Manchester United return to Premier League action with a trip to Norwich City on Saturday.
