David Beckham showed off a caterpillar cake on Instagram as he finished his 41st birthday with family around him (Happy Birthday Godfather)

David Beckham finished his birthday with his wife and children - as well as a rather large chocolate cake.

With four candles poised for lots more birthday wishes, the 41-year-old shared a black and white pictured of the sweet treat his four children - Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper had given him.

David also used the opportunity to thank his fan following for the sweet well-wishings, just as wife Victoria squeezed in one last post to the hunk.

 He said: 'As the night comes to a close I wanted to thank everyone for the birthday wishes I received and also this delicious caterpillar cake the kids gave me tonight...'

And then his faithful wife shared a picture of the two of them together, next to which she said: 'Such a special day today with @davidbeckham @brooklynbeckham Romeo,Cruz and Harper X Love your artwork Romeo!! X #soulmate X VB'

It was a picture of the pair together, and their eldest-but-one son had added adorable love hearts and a cake emoji.

Victoria, 42, was clearly feeling loved up as she shared the snap of her football ace husband surrounded by a sea of expertly wrapped gifts and presents with her 10.2million followers. 

Grinning from ear to ear, David sat in front of an open fire in a room surrounded with intricately detailed leaf wallpaper and a huge television in the background.

He simply wrote beneath the shot: 'Happy birthday mr guns' - once again illustrating the playful relationship he shares with his father.

And likewise his brother Romeo also offered up his own artistic tribute to his father, sending Victoria a snap of herself and David surrounded by love hearts and a cake.

Meanwhile it was clear that the Beckham patriarch had been lavished with gifts, as David was surrounded by a host of presents wrapped in map print paper and sealed with a pink bow.
