METRO FM DJ Sibusiso Leope had his day in court last week after he was nabbed driving at 170km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N1 near Brooklyn, Pretoria, at the weekend.
National Prosecuting Authority's spokesman Nathi Mncube confirmed that the popular radio and TV personality appeared in court in Hatfield, Pretoria.
"He did appear and his case was postponed to October 3 for further investigations. He is out on bail but unfortunately I do not have the information on how much the bail is."
His employer, Metro FM, confirmed the DJ, who presents Sound Revival on Saturdays between noon and 3pm, was arrested for driving at the alleged speed on his way back from Polokwane where he attended an event to celebrate the station's 28th birthday.
Metro FM's PR and communications head Happy Ngidi said in a statement: "DJ Sbu is remorseful and regrets this turn of events. He takes the incident very seriously and apologises to his fans, followers and to South Africans at large.
"Metro FM regrets this unfortunate incident. As a station we do not condone speeding in any way as things could have gone horribly wrong with worse repercussions. The station is in full support of the legal process and will let that take its course accordingly."
Leope's phone was off and he could not be reached for comment before going to press.
Seven years ago, the celebrity was arrested for driving at 256km/h in a 120km/h zone in a sponsored Audi TT Roadster, which the sponsor snatched away from him.
Two years later, he was involved in an accident where his former girlfriend and actress Terry Pheto's publicist confirmed that he was driving her rented VW Polo at the time.
