Chris Brown has some words of wisdom for Ray Rice.
The
27-year-old Baltimore Ravens running back was suspended indefinitely by
the NFL after a new video leaked on Monday of him knocking his now wife
Janay unconscious in an elevator.
'To Ray, or anybody else... It's all about how you control yourself,' Chris, 25, told Rolling Stone, as he discussed how he's learned to manage his anger since his 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna.
'Been down that road...' Chris Brown, pictured
visiting Music Choice's 'You And A' in New York City on Friday, offered
some words of wisdom to Ray Rice, who was recently suspended from the
NFL for domestic violence
Abuse: In security footage published by TMZ on
Monday, Rice, pictured with Janay in May, can be seen knocking out his
then fiancé with a single punch in an Atlantic City elevator in February
In
2009, the Loyal hitmaker was sentenced to five years of probation,
which he violated last October for punching a man who tried to take a
picture with him.
He subsequently went to jail for 108 days this year and was released on June 2.
‘I
can just say I’ve been down that road,’ Chris said. ‘I deal with
situations and I’ve made my mistakes too, but it’s all about how you
push forward and how you control yourself.’
The singer reflected on the source of his problematic behaviour.
‘With
me, I deal with a lot of anger issues from my past – not knowing how to
express myself verbally and, at the same time, not knowing how to cope
with my emotions and deal with them and understand what they are,’ he
confessed.
Seeking help: Chris who is promoting his
upcoming album, X, has been learning to manage his anger more
effectively via bi-weekly therapy
Chris has been learning to manage his anger more effectively with the help of bi-weekly therapy.
His
therapists have been teaching him: '"This is how you should react," or
"it's good to feel this way because feelings, emotions, and energy are
supposed to come and go."
'"It’s not supposed to stay there; you’re not supposed to keep it inside because it’ll bottle up and you’ll become a monster."'
Meanwhile,
his ex-girlfriend Rihanna’s NFL performance at the Baltimore Ravens
game on Thursday was cancelled, as she was also the victim of a high
profile domestic violence incident.
CBS
Sports Chairman Sean McManus said: 'We thought journalistically and
from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone
coverage.'
Anger management: He said of what he's learned
about managing anger - 'It’s not supposed to stay there; you’re not
supposed to keep it inside because it’ll bottle up and you’ll become a
monster'

on Monday, Rice can be seen knocking out his then fiancée Janay Palmer
with a single punch in an Atlantic City elevator in February.
He
was charged with felony aggravated assault but in May he was accepted
into a pre-trial intervention program that allowed him to avoid jail
time.
The
NFL initially reacted to the incident by suspending Rice for two games –
a decision that has been heavily criticized in light of the recent
footage.
He and Janay married just a month after the incident.
