She told Britney Spears she'd show up on the red carpet with her 'best impression.'
And
Katy Perry wasn't kidding, impersonating the Toxic hitmaker to a T as
she arrived at the 2014 MTV Music Awards dressed in denim alongside
rapper Riff Raff in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The 29-year-old was paying homage to Britney and then-boyfriend
Justin Timberlake, who went down in history for wearing matching denim
ensembles as they attended the 28th Annual American Music Awards in
2001.
Challenge accepted! Katy Perry and Riff Raff
channelled Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake as they arrived at the
2014 MTV Video Music Awards in Inglewood, California on Sunday - after
Katy told Brit she would show her 'best impression'
Uncanny! The pair certainly did a great job at
mirroring Britney and JT's looks from the 28th Annual American Music
Awards in 2001
Like
Britney, Katy's denim maxi dress featured a plunging strapless
neckline, figure-hugging bodice, flowing hemline and chained belt.
She even decorated her neck with a chunky statement necklace and carried a petite denim handbag.
Although
Katy's two-toned denim look was a bit edgier and sexier than the blonde
pop star's, as it was complete with a sexy thigh-high slit and adorned
with silver studs.
Vamping it up: Katy's version was a bit more sexy, with a thigh-high slit and studs
Tough guy: Riff Raff had on a studded denim blazer, tattered jeans, chains and a metallic blouse
The Birthday singer also vamped up her outfit with crimson lipstick and her thick brunette tresses worn in a voluminous 'do.
Meanwhile, Riff Raff mirrored the former 'N Sync star's ensemble, sporting a jean blazer, sunglasses, and denim trousers.
But his pieces were also a bit more punk and grunge-inspired, as they were tattered and studded.
Loving it: The two appeared to be enjoying every second of their stroll down the carpet
Vixenish: Katy showed off her shapely figure while posing with a sexy scarlet slick
Ill wait here... Riff Raff had no problem standing aside as Katy got snapped away
We did it! The pair seemed to celebrate their successful impressions
The
Dolce & Gabbana singer also decked himself out in chain necklaces, a
metallic blouse, a belt that matched Katy's, and navy dress shoes.
And he opted out of wearing a denim hat like JT did back in the day, in order to show off his colourful braided hair.
The pair seemed excited to be parading around in their costumes as they posed together on the carpet and inside the ceremony.
Back view: Riff Raff opted out of wearing a denim hat so he could show off his bright hairdo
Stunning: The pop star looked gorgeous with her subtle yet sexy make-up and ravenous locks
Katy found her Brit-spiration on Friday, as she interacted with the Ooh La La singer on Twitter.
Britney
posted a video of her best Woody Woodpecker impression, to which Katy
replied, 'This is the best thing I've seen all day bb.'
Brit quipped with a challenge, '@katyperry You're up next. #Noexcuses. You have 24 hours to do your best impression.'
Readily
accepting, Katy ensured,'@britneyspears I'll show u my best impression
on the red carpet at the VMA's tomorrow... Wait for it bb.'

Thank you! The star took the stage with Rapper Juicy J to accept their honour
Strike a pose: The beauty showed off her sculpted legs after winning her award
Getting into character: Charli XCX and Sam Smith posed with the duo
Nuzzling in: Riff Raff and Katy continued to get coy with the cameras
