They were followed by dignitaries including sitting and former heads of state and international celebrities.
Mandela's body left the One Military Hospital this morning. As our journalist Sechaba ka Nkosi reports, some family members could not hold back tears.
Some of the high-profile people who've come pay their last respects to Madiba include former president Thabo Mbeki and his wife Zanele, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace. The international celebrities include Bono and Naomi Campbell.
President Jacob Zuma stood solemn for a few seconds to look at the body of the former President. Zuma filed pass the wooden coffin accompanied by the Mandela family, Mandela's daughter, Zimzi could not contain her grief as she broke down after filling pass the coffin.
