Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Rooney and Co all in the pot... but who's in best shape heading into the Champions League draw?

0
With half of the class weeded out, just 16 of Europe's finest teams remain for when the Champions League becomes a knockout tournament in the next round of the competition.
With a large majority of the favourites squeezing through from the group stage, there looks to be no easy fixtures ahead of the draw for the last 16 on Monday.
So as sides across Europe weigh up the options on who they may face, Sportsmail has provided a handy guide to all 16 teams bidding to reach the Lisbon final in May.
Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Rooney and Co all in the pot... but who's in best shape heading into the Champions League draw?
Champions: Bayern Munich are one of 16 teams left in the competition, as they look to retain the trophy they lifted at Wembley in May
Manchester United
Manager: David Moyes
After taking over in the summer, Moyes installed a more conservative approach to United's attack which after 27 years of Sir Alex Ferguson influence has hit a few teething problems.
Star man: Wayne Rooney
Robin van Persie will lead the frontline but as United's midfield comes under bigger scrutiny than ever, Rooney is a key to linking up attacks as well as scoring goals.

Danger rating: 4/5

Bayer Leverkusen
Manager: Sami Hyypia
After a year spent as joint coach with Sascha Lewandowski, Hyypia took overall control this season and the former Liverpool defender has the German side flying – winning 12 of their first 15 Bundesliga games.
Star man: Stefan Kiessling
Scored just two goals in the group stage (both against Shakhtar in a 4-0 win) so Hyypia will be hoping to get more from the former German international if they want to progress further in the competition.

Not your stereotypical Italian boss. The former Chelsea manager thrives on getting the best out of attacking players and is currently getting full value from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Star man: Cristiano Ronaldo
There are quite a few in Madrid, but with Ronaldo proving at international level recently that he can win games on his own, the Portuguese forward as ever will be the ultimate danger man.

Galatasaray
Manager: Roberto Mancini
Cautious in his approach but isn't afraid to attack when the best tools are available to him. Fell out with many Manchester City stars last term but has proven success as a manager.
Star man: Didier Drogba
Still going strong well into his mid-30s, Drogba's goals are not as regular as they were in his Chelsea days but his experience will be invaluable to the Turkish side.

Danger rating: 3/5
Paris-Saint Germain
Manager: Laurent Blanc
Just like his playing days, Blanc has become a fine leader in his blossoming managerial career. Keen to take charge with authority, the former Manchester United defender has at the very least maintained PSG's explosive attacking threat.
Star man: Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The World Cup will be a poorer tournament without the striker next summer, so enjoy Ibrahimovic while you can in the next few months. PSG's attacks are built around the Swede who has a handy rear gunner in Edinson Cavani.
Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Rooney and Co all in the pot... but who's in best shape heading into the Champions League draw?

Danger rating: 4/5
Olympiacos
Manager: Michel
A former Real Madrid midfielder and Spain international, Michel's success as a manager had been minor up until this season. But he has worked wonders to guide the Greek outfit into the knockout stages in his first few months in charge.
Star man: Kostas Mitroglou
A powerful striker whose only goals in the group stage came with a hat-trick in the win at Anderlecht. Nevertheless he will be a key figure in terms of holding play up.
Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Rooney and Co all in the pot... but who's in best shape heading into the Champions League draw?

Danger rating: 2/5
Bayern Munich
Manager: Pep Guardiola
Managerial genius or just blessed with world class players? Either way, the Spaniard consistently got the best out of his Barcelona stars and is doing likewise with Munich. He isn't rated as one of Europe's finest managers for nothing.
Star player: Franck Ribery
Now in his 30s but the French midfielder looks better than ever. Hard to see him beating Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to the Ballon d'Or prize but the fact he is a contender speaks volumes of the year he has had.
Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Rooney and Co all in the pot... but who's in best shape heading into the Champions League draw?

Manchester City
Manager: Manuel Pellegrini
Deadly at home and hopeless away has generally been the rule for City under the new management of Pellegrini. The group stage taught us he can't count but City have upped their game in Europe under the Chilean.

Ever since signing for the City in 2011 the Argentina striker has scored goals for fun and he will be key once again if the Premier League outfit are to go all the way in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich (h) lost 1-3     Viktoria Plzen (h) won 4-2

Who could they face in the last 16?
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona. Champions League history
Best finish: Group stage (2 - 2011,2012)
Appearances: 4
Did you know? Manchester City's 15 points in the group stage is a record high for a team failing to win their group.
Danger rating: 4/5
Chelsea
Manager: Jose Mourinho
Driven by results rather than champagne football, Mourinho to his credit usually gets the former. Although his near misses to win the Champions League as Real Madrid boss and his sticky start in his second Chelsea spell show that even the Special One has a few flaws.
Star player: Eden Hazard
With Juan Mata quizzically overlooked on many occasions this term, Hazard has been one of the Blues most consistent performers in the Blues midfield and he even chips in with the odd goal or two.
Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Rooney and Co all in the pot... but who's in best shape heading into the Champions League draw?

Danger rating: 3/5

Having guided Borussia Dortmund to the final of last year's competition, Klopp is touted as one of Europe's finest managers. Has built and developed a young Dortmund side – only for it to be cherry picked by Europe's heavyweight teams.
Star player: Robert Lewandowski
Quite how long he will be wearing the yellow and black of Dortmund for is anyone's guess but for now he leads the German team's attack and as a result makes the Bundesliga side a huge threat.

Star player: Mesut Ozil
The arrival of the German playmaker for £42.5m was greeted with much fanfare and the world class addition to the Arsenal ranks has helped make the north London side a feared force once again.
Ronaldo, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Rooney and Co all in the pot... but who's in best shape heading into the Champions League draw?

A vastly experienced coach… but only in South America. This season has been Martino's first in Europe but his star studded squad is so far masking any problems that the Argentine could be suffering, if any at all.

Since winning the Italian title in 2011 it's been all downhill for Allergi and this season he has Milan in all sorts of problems with the Rossoneri closer to a relegation scrap than a Champions League place.
Star player: Mario Balotelli
Don't be completely fooled by the mid-table showing in Italy though. There are some star players in the squad including former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli. As ever the Italian has blown hot and cold this term.
