But the United striker is rated 50-50 for the game against Manuel Pellegrini’s City at the Etihad Stadium on September 22.

Moyes is already resigned to being without Rooney for Saturday’s Barclays Premier League game at home to Crystal Palace and he is unlikely to feature in the Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford next Tuesday.
The striker has started just one United game this season, producing a Man of the Match performance in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
He came on as a substitute in the opener against Swansea, having a hand in two of his teams four goals.
