PSG launched bid for Mesut Ozil

PSG manager Laurent Blanc - who replaced Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti over the summer - also revealed that his side were interested in signing Chelsea star Juan Mata.

PSG ended up missing out on both playmakers - with Mata deciding to stay at Stamford Bridge and Ozil moving to the Emirates Stadium for a club record fee of £42.4million.

Speaking to French radio station RMC, Blanc said of PSG's pursuit of Ozil: “We lacked the time to recruit a midfielder. Clement Chantome chose to be transferred to Toulouse.

"We lack the time to recruit a midfielder. Ozil and Mata would have done well. To my knowledge we only attempted to sign Ozil. A midfielder could land at PSG in the next transfer window."

PSG may follow up their interest in Mata, who seems to have fallen down the pecking order since Jose Mourinho's return to Chelsea, during the January transfer window.

Mata has so far made just two starts this season, with last season's Player of the Year being continually overlooked by the Portuguese tactician.
