While that may be the case, it was more of a purr that emanated from Katy Perry on Sunday when she watched the rocker perform at Cruzan Ampitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The 28-year-old singer had the best seat in the house – right by the side of the stage – as tattooed Mayer worked his way through a string of tracks from latest album Paradise Valley.

Katy appeared to be transfixed as she sat behind a large container during the latest date on John’s Born and Raised Tour.
The pair rekindled their stop-start relationship earlier this year, after which they shared vocals on John’s latest single, plaintive ballad Who You Love.
Speaking about the track with Billboard, the 35-year-old admitted the lyrics were meaningful to both of them.

He said: ‘I started singing ‘And my girl, she ain’t the one I saw coming/Sometimes I don’t know which way to go/And I tried to run before, but I’m not running anymore’
‘In 2013, modern-day times that’s sweet, because there’s so many other things to occupy your time that you can do for yourself. That to say, I tried to be alone and I can’t. This is sort of our generation.’
Katy is also in the midst of releasing fresh material, with new single Roar – the lead from forthcoming album Prism – racing to the top of the UK singles chart on Sunday.

Speaking about her inspiration for the track, the hit-maker admitted she wrote the sing while recovering from a break-up.
‘Roar is a song I wrote as I was a little bit upset,’ she told BBC Radio 1. ‘I found myself having a break with my boyfriend, who I loved very much and it really hurt my heart.
‘I said to myself, ‘I need to see what is going on with me and make sure I’m all good.’ When you break up with someone it’s easy to say they are crazy and think it’s all them, but, honestly, maybe there is 50 per cent responsibility on your behalf.
‘It was just time for me to be honest with myself.’
