So no wonder Kerry Washington thinks she is the luckiest lady in showbusiness after being nominated for an Emmy just a month after tying the knot.
The Scandal favourite could not believe her luck when she discovered she is in line for a best actress gong for her turn as crisis manager Olivia Pope in the ABC political drama.
The 36-year-old actress, who was at an airport in California when she got the good news, told People: 'I'm the luckiest broad in showbiz,.
'I just feel really blessed and humbled and grateful for this nomination.
'I had my dog with me and I was trying to get water for the plane in that hurried, crazy airport mode.
'I'm going to celebrate with my Scandal family after we have our table read today.'
It topped off a fabulous period for the actress, who married San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, 32, last month in Idaho.
Date night? Kerry refused to confirm that she would take her news husband Nnamdi Asomugha to the Emmys
The A-lister was coy about discussing life with her beefcake husband, though she did admit, 'I will say I'm really happy. I'm blessed in all areas of my life.'
She even refused to be drawn on whether she would bring along her man or her parents to the Emmys in September.
Kerry said: 'I have not decided who will be my date. That was my parents' question this morning! We'll see.'
