Katy Perry will face off against Miley Cyrus and perform new single Roar at MTV Video Music Awards

Looks like MTV's Video Music Awards will actually be a pop rock version of the West Side Story.
Held in Brooklyn, New York, this year, it will of course be more of an East Coast Story with Katy Perry going head to head with Miley Cyus - if MTV's promotional images are anything to go by.
It was announced on Monday Katy will be performing her new single Roar on the VMA's stage on August 25.

MTV released a promotional image to let fans know that the 28-year-old was going to make her return to the VMA stage for the third time.

In the image Katy defiantly strides down a New York street with a large posse of dancers behind her.

With her crew dressed in black and leopard print it is clear the Fireworks singer is not only ready to rock, but also ready to rumble.

While Katy and her band of sexy dancers may rule the streets of New York, fellow pop princess Miley is the queen of the seedier underground subway system of Brooklyn - according to MTV's promotional video featuring the star.

Earlier this month the former Hannah Mintana star's promotional video was released, showing the We Can't Stop singer taking over a subway station with her own posse of street wise dancers.

Just like the Jets and the Sharks of the West Side Story, the two dueling singer's each dress in their own contrasting colour schemes - Katy is black and leopard and Miley in white.

In Katy's new promotional picture the singer makes sure to show off her now famous bust in a grungy but sexy look.

Giving a nod to Nineties grunge, in the image the California Gurl singer dons a short tartan kilt with knee high socks and a sweater tied around her waist.

The 28-year-old amped up the outfit's sexiness wearing a tight cropped black shiny Lycra top with a studded cross on it.

As always, Katy showed off her ample assets going bra-less under the high-necked top.

Sporting much darker black hair, Katy's alabaster skin glows in the photograph as she stares down the camera.

By the focused look on the singer's face means Miley may have to watch out.

While many singers just feature a style image with the words to their song running along the bottom of a still image, the edgy pop star went one step further.

Saucy Katy: In the new video the star uses Emojis and while shot from Katy's point of view for most of the video, it provocatively shows the star lying in the bath

Instead of just words, Katy used Emojis - symbols used in text messages - written both by herself and her real life friends.

Shot from Katy's point of view, fans only get to see the star's hands for most of the clip however, it does start with the singer waking up to her phone ringing.

It also provocatively shows Katy lying in the bath - with bubbles keep her modesty intact - and finishes with the 28-year-old picking up her cat and chatting to it.

But Katy's day of announcements did not end there, she and partner John Mayer also confirmed they were in love again, via song in their first ever duet together.

John's brand new song, Who You Love, hit the web on Monday. Co-written by Katy the pair sing about their on and off relationship.

Speaking to the The Morning Mash Up live on SiriusXM Hits 1 Katy spoke about singing and gigling on the song.

She said: 'I think that’s just a love giggle. It’s like the ones that Mariah Carey had in 1990 and stuff like that.

'Yeah I think I was going for that, I think I was just so happy.'
