A Saudi man weighing 610kgwas forklifted to hospital yesterday for medical treatment to reduce his weight.
Khaled Mohsin Shairi was flown from his southwestern hometown of Jizan to the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, on a specially equipped aircraft, the SPA state news agency reported.
It posted a picture of the massively obese Shairi being lifted out of the aircraft by a forklift on his arrival in the capital.
Acting on the orders of King Abdullah, who will foot the bill for the treatment, the health ministry acquired a specially made bed from the US and a crane with which to extricate Shairi from his second-floor flat, the SPA report said.
The ministry did not specify the nature of the treatment the young man would undergo and his age has not been disclosed.
