And now devotees to the franchise have been given a better vision of Jamie in character as the nemesis to the superhero.
Producers for the film, which is due to be released in April next year, have now given a better peek to comic book fans with the promotional images.
Foxx, 45, looks unrecognisable as the villain as he snarls in one image with the veins in his head popping out and illuminated over his blue skull.
He can be seen with a metal suit with nuts and bolts, while even his eyes are lit up in a bright blue colour.
In another image he faces off against Spider-Man, played for the second time by Social Network star Andrew Garfield.
Andrew is also suited and booted in the iconic Spider-Man suit as he stares straight into Electro's eyes as they stand chest to chest.
Foxx again looks intimidating in the picture with his black suit, glowing red fingers and bald head looking positively electrifying to fit in with his character.
Comic book fans were doubtlessly shocked when it emerged Jamie Foxx was to play iconic villain Electro.
But that will surely change to excitement when they see his first appearance as the character in the new Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer which was released earlier this month.
The 45-year-old makes his grand entrance in a highly charged short scene which only hints at the characters true level of power.
And it seems Jamie brings some of his trademark cockiness to his portrayal of the role.
Despite the fact he is stuck in some kind of restraining machine, though it could also be a device for charging his powers, he seems confident it will not be able to hold him forever.
He tells a mysterious off-screen character: 'I feel it in my veins. No matter what you do doc, you can't contain it.
Nuts and bolts : It is unclear if the machine is a restraining device or a way to charge his powers
Charging the human capacitor: The villain warns there is no limit to his power as he chats to an off-screen character
'You wanna know how powerful I am? Well I would love to. I'm Electro.'
He looks far removed from the delightfully larger-than-life villain whose schemes would always end in disaster at the hands of Spider-Man in the original comic books.
Maxwell Dillon, an electrical engineer and lineman, was repairing a power line, a freak lightning accident caused a mutagenic change that transformed him into a living electrical capacitor, and he later decides to take advantage of this and become Electro.
However Jamie's version of the character is based on the Ultimate universe version, whose powers are a product of bioengineering, has a bald head and grotesque burn scars.
Watt is he doing: Many will be wondering if he will find a way to escape and wreak havok
Big plug: The movie's release date is detailed at the very end of the teaser trailer
Original and best: Many will be extremely shocked the larger than life classic Electro will not feature
