I was desperate to bring Cavani to Man City, claims sacked boss Mancini

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has revealed he tried to convince the club’s owners to sign Napoli striker Edinson Cavani before he was sacked last month.
The Uruguayan is expected to leave Napoli this summer with City, Chelsea and Real Madrid leading the chase for his signature.
Napoli have so far refused to lower their asking price from Cavani’s £54million buyout clause but Mancini - who was sacked after losing the FA Cup final to Wigan - confirmed to the Sunday Star that City’s owners have been discussing the transfer.

He said: ‘When I was at City I often spoke about Cavani with the management. I often talked with the board about Edinson because he interested us a lot.
‘Cavani was somebody who could have been targeted. I don’t know whether he is of interest in the club’s new technical project.’
City have already confirmed the signings midfielder Fernandinho and Jesus Navas and new manager Manuel Pellegrini is thought to want to add a playmaker and a striker to his squad with Malaga’s Isco and Cavani the priorities.
