SACP members urged to emulate Hani

South African Communist Party (SACP) Deputy Chairperson Thulas Nxesi has called on party members to emulate the late SACP general secretary, Chris Hani.

Nxesi was speaking at a gala dinner in East London in the Eastern Cape, which was part of the 20th anniversary of Hani's death. Nxesi described Hani as a loyal cadre and disciplined leader.

“To talk about some of his qualities, what do they mean to the current leadership. What do they mean to the young leadership today and how can we follow in the footsteps of such giants because he was very exemplary in terms of uniting the party leadership skills. His bravery therefore, it means a lot of learns for us which we can learn,” says Nxesi.

Speaking at the same event, Basic Education Minister and ANC Women League President Angie Motshekga said there has been a marked improvement in the beleaguered Eastern Cape Education since the national department's intervention.

“I was here for the whole of last week and met a number of officials and I was of the view that we should start considering dealing with intervention differently. We may not finish what we were supposed to do but most of the things that we intended intervention for are in place. They have employed senior people permanently. There are things which are working so we can then be supportive,” says Motshekga.
